One thing many people associate with the state of Mississippi is that it is the birthplace of the teddy bear. The idea to create the teddy bear all started when the president at the time, Theodore Roosevelt, refused to kill a bear that had been trapped. After seeing a political cartoon of the incident, a candy shop owner came up with the stuffed animal idea and called it “Teddy’s bear.”1 While candy shop owner isn’t one of the most common jobs titles nowadays, retail salespersons and cashiers are.3 It’s nice to think that some of the people in those job positions may be working at the retail chain, “Build-a-Bear.” It’s first store was opened in Mississippi, and it now has over 400 locations nation-wide.2
