Often when people think of New Mexico, they think of a desert land. In actuality, New Mexico arguably has one of the most diverse landscapes across the nation. Along with its desert land, there are mountain peaks up to 13,000 feet tall that sometimes are covered with snow, and wildflower fields among terrain with cottonwood trees decorating the landscape.3 Although New Mexico's landscape is diverse, it's not possible to say the same about its climate. It's so dry in New Mexico that about 3/4 of the roads have been left unpaved since the roads don't wash away.1
When it comes to occupational safety and health administration in New Mexico, it’s one of twenty-two states/territories that have OSHA-approved State Plans. Along with incorporating all Federal OSHA standards that relate to state and local government employees, and private sector employer operations, New Mexico OSHA has adopted unique standards involving general industry, construction, and agriculture; some specific standards include government firefighting, workplace violence in convenient stores, hazard communication and field sanitation.4 Learn more about New Mexico OSHA here.
